GlenAllachie is a Speyside single malt distillery near Aberlour, originally built in the 1960s to provide malt whisky for blending. For much of its life it was a relatively low-profile producer, valued by blenders more than widely known by single malt drinkers, before a major change in direction brought it into sharper focus.
The distillery was acquired in 2017 by a consortium led by veteran whisky maker Billy Walker, whose previous work with BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh made the takeover especially significant. Under independent ownership, GlenAllachie has been repositioned as a cask-led single malt brand, with Walker’s influence most visible in the careful use of sherry wood, virgin oak, wine casks and other maturation styles.
The core range includes expressions such as the 12, 15 and 18 Year Old, alongside the popular 10 Year Old Cask Strength, single casks, limited editions and wood-finish releases. The style is generous and full-flavoured, often showing heather honey, butterscotch, orchard fruit, dark chocolate, dried fruit, spice and polished oak, with richer bottlings leaning into deeper sherry-cask character.
