Strathisla is a Speyside single malt distillery in Keith, Moray, with origins dating back to 1786, when it was founded under the name Milltown. Often described as one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in Scotland, it has become one of the most picturesque and historically resonant names in the Chivas Brothers portfolio.
Today Strathisla is owned by Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard, and is closely associated with Chivas Regal. Its malt whisky plays an important role in the Chivas house style, while the distillery itself is presented as the spiritual home of the blend. Although much of its production supports blending, Strathisla also appears as a single malt through official distillery releases, older bottlings and independent expressions.
The whisky is typically rounded, fruity and gently sherried, with notes of apple, pear, honey, malt, soft spice, dried fruit and polished oak. Its character is elegant rather than forceful, offering the kind of balance and texture that explains why it has long been valued by blenders as well as single malt drinkers.
Strathisla’s charm comes from the way it combines visible heritage with quiet usefulness. Behind the postcard distillery buildings is a malt that remains central to one of Scotch whisky’s great blends, yet still has enough poise and character to stand confidently on its own.
