Longmorn is a Speyside single malt distillery near Elgin, founded in the 1890s by John Duff and long admired by whisky blenders for the quality of its spirit. Although it has never had the same mainstream profile as some neighbouring Speyside names, Longmorn has earned a strong reputation among enthusiasts for its depth, texture and naturally generous character.

Today Longmorn is part of Chivas Brothers, owned by Pernod Ricard. Much of its whisky has historically been used in blends, but the distillery also has an established single malt identity, supported by official releases and a steady presence from independent bottlers. Its connection with Benriach is notable too: Benriach was originally built next door by John Duff as Longmorn’s sister distillery.

The house style is rich and fruit-forward, often showing ripe orchard fruit, honey, vanilla, soft spice, malt and rounded oak. With age, Longmorn can become especially luxurious, developing notes of tropical fruit, polished wood, wax, toffee and gentle dried fruit, while retaining the smooth Speyside balance that has made it so highly regarded by blenders.

Longmorn is best understood as a connoisseur’s Speyside malt: not obscure, but quietly prized. Its finest bottlings show why the distillery has such a strong reputation behind the scenes, offering weight, elegance and a naturally satisfying fruitiness without needing to shout for attention.
