Haig is one of the great historic names in Scotch whisky, associated with the Haig family’s long involvement in Scottish distilling and with Cameronbridge, the Fife grain distillery founded by John Haig in 1824. The brand became especially prominent through blended Scotch expressions such as Haig Gold Label and Dimple, helping establish the Haig name as a fixture of twentieth-century whisky drinking.
Today Haig is owned by Diageo, and its modern identity spans both traditional blends and single grain whisky. Dimple remains one of the best-known historic Haig-related blends, while Haig Club, launched in 2014, brought the name to a newer audience through a modern single grain Scotch style sourced from Cameronbridge.
The broader Haig profile is smooth, approachable and grain-influenced, with notes of vanilla, honey, cereal, toffee, soft fruit and gentle oak. Dimple offers a more mature blended Scotch character, often showing dried fruit, spice and rounded malt depth, while Haig Club is lighter and sweeter, designed to work neatly in simple serves and long drinks.
Haig’s significance lies in its continuity. Few whisky names connect so directly with the development of Scotch grain distilling, the rise of blending and the modern repositioning of single grain whisky, making it a brand with far more history behind it than its current shelf presence might suggest.
