Aultmore is a Speyside single malt distillery near Keith, founded in 1896 by Alexander Edward. Built during the late Victorian whisky boom, it has long been associated with the quieter, workhorse side of Scotch: highly regarded by blenders, but historically less visible as a standalone single malt.

Today Aultmore is owned by Bacardi through John Dewar & Sons, sitting in the same portfolio as Dewar’s, Aberfeldy, Craigellachie, Royal Brackla and The Deveron. Much of its production continues to support blended Scotch, but Aultmore also has an official single malt presence, with expressions including the 12 Year Old and older age-stated releases, alongside independent bottlings.

The whisky is typically clean, grassy and fruit-led, with notes of apple, pear, citrus, vanilla, malt, soft herbs and gentle spice. Its lighter Speyside profile can become more textured with age, developing honey, polished oak, orchard fruit and a subtle waxiness while retaining a fresh, lifted character.

Aultmore is often described as one of Speyside’s more discreet distilleries, and that understatement is part of its charm. When bottled well, it offers a crisp, elegant style that shows why blenders value it so highly, while giving single malt drinkers a quieter alternative to the region’s more famous names.
